Newspaper Archives
The Monroe Monitor searchable archives from 1899 to 1979.
Toys, books, portraits, yearbooks, the poor farm bell, a 3,200 pound bank safe, uniforms … more than just things, the Monroe Historical Society’s collections are stories waiting to be told. We’ve been collecting since 1976 and continue to collect items that reflect the many stories that make up Monroe’s history. We preserve, catalog and research objects for use in our exhibits and educational programs, not only to document the past but to provide insight and stories for generations to come.
Our staff and volunteers are always working to input information into our collection databases, but it’s a work in progress. Stop by our museum to see our full collections and get a close up look at Monroe’s history.
